English Language Learning (ELL) 'Community English' provides you with opportunities to learn English for living, working and studying in New Zealand.
Learning English will help you develop language and skills to improve your confidence, participate in your community and prepare you for a job and/or study.

Term 1
Students know the alphabet and can confidently name and sound out each letter.
Students can confidently form the alphabet letters in upper and lower case.
Students can confidently use the ‘sky-grass-ground’ as a writing guide.
Students learn very basic computer skills.
Students know basic numbers and can confidently sound them out and form them.
Term 2
Students know the alphabet and can pronounce CVC words.
Students can introduce themselves.
Students can make connections between a word and its meaning.
Students can recognise the red sight words.
Students know basic numbers and can confidently sound them out, form and write them up to 20.
Students can recognise, speak and write amounts of money using correct terminology and conventions.
Term 3
Students can construct simple sentences.
Students can use learnt language patterns to communicate information.
Students can read CVC words.
Students can read simple sentences.
Students can integrate knowledge of numbers, money, and basic learnt vocabulary into simple phrases and sentences.
Students can recognise the yellow sight words.
ELL unit standards contribute to the New Zealand Certificate in English Language (NZCEL)and NCEA (Level 1 credits - Foundation & Level 1)
