13 Film Studies
In this course you will build knowledge and understanding of film through the study of a genre, an exploration of film history, and a topic of film theory. You will also design and produce your own film, from writing the screenplay through to a completed short film, which you will also film and edit using digital cameras and Adobe Premiere Pro.

Course Overview
Term 1
In term 1, we will select the genre we study throughout the year towards the external, which will be assessed in term 3 (practice exams) and term 4 external exams (91493 Demonstrate understanding of a relationship between a media genre and society 4 credits).
Students will begin the process of designing their own film product and will complete a design and plan (91494 Produce a design for a media product that meets the requirements of a brief).
Term 2
This term, students will write a screenplay for their film (91497, Write a media text to meet the requirements of a brief, 3 credits) and begin rehearsals and filming. They will also complete an essay topic on film theory and write two essays outlining two different readings of one film (91491, Demonstrate understanding of the meaning of a media text through different readings, 3 credits).
Term 3
Students will complete their film products (91495 Produce a media product to meet the requirements of a brief 6 credits) and sit the practice exam (91493 Demonstrate understanding of a relationship between a media genre and society 4 credits).
Term 4
Students will engage in revision study towards the final exam (91493 Demonstrate understanding of a relationship between a media genre and society 4 credits) and complete any outstanding assessment tasks or resubmissions needed to complete the course work.
