Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Daniel Wiseman.

12 Motion Graphics

Develop knowledge and skills in character design. Apply animation methods by filming and digitally painting frames to create an animation. Year 11 students can apply for an interview to determine Level 2 drawing ability to gain enrolment to this class.

Course Components

  • Create your own original character and environment designs
  • Develop a short animated or stop motion film
  • Develop skills and knowledge of digital applications appropriate to animation

Course Overview

Term 1
TERM ONE (Skills and Production)

Design Process Fundamentals:

Introduction to design principles (composition, color theory, typography, visual hierarchy).

Understanding the design process.

Animation Techniques:

Adding animation using Photoshop.

Introduction to stop motion and other animation types after effects.

. Character Design:

Developing unique characters for the title sequence.

Establishing consistent character styles.

Camera and Editing Skills:

Basics of shooting video.

Video editing techniques.

Drawing Exercises:

Rotoscoping techniques.

Anatomy studies.

Term 2
Skills and Production

Animated Title Sequence Project:

Exploration of animated title styles and conventions.

Student brainstorming, visual research, and analysis

Storyboarding:

Creating storyboards for the animated title sequence.

Graphic Design Concepts:

Introduction to the fundamentals of design.

Projects: Logo designs and poster designs.

Final design submission due at the start of Term 3 (Design 2.2 and 2.3 to be used for assessment).

Term 3
Production

Production Continuation:

Further exploration of personalized graphic design/video elements.

After Effects:

Learning how to compile video using After Effects.

Title sequence Draft:

Draft version of the Animated title sequence due by Week 9.

Term 4
Production

1-2 minute animated video title sequence:

Final submission of the complete animation by the end of Week 2.

Graphic Design Concepts:

Opportunity for resubmission (Design 2.2 and 2.3) until the end of term 4
