Course Overview

Term 1
During the first term we will focus on refreshing our performance knowledge, and strengthen our ability to work cohesively as part of ensemble We will also focus on our ability to develop and devise an original drama, using the principles and conventions of Brechtian Epic Theatre.

Term 2
In groups, we will use the elements, conventions and principles of Epic Theatre to structure, and perform an original devised piece of theatre. We will also complete written work to justify the decisions we have made during the devising process. We will also begin rehearsing for our Year 12 major production.

Term 3
This term we will perform a substantial acting role in a major production. This is our main performance for the year, and you will be responsible for all aspects of the performance, such as acting, directing, lighting, sound, as well as costume, make-up, props and set design. There will be many after school rehearsals in June. We will be performing the show for an invited audience of friends, whānau, and the wider school community.

Term 4
During Term 4, we will work in pairs, combining the drama techniques of voice, body, movement and space, to interpret and present a scripted drama. This may be a duologue scene written by a student in 12EDR. We will also prepare for the external exam, strengthening our ability to discuss drama elements, techniques, conventions and technologies within live performance.
