11 Physical Education

In this course you will engage with how movement affects self, those around you, and your wider communities. You will learn to recognise and understand the challenges which affect participation in movement, and respond to any movement barriers with full and active participation. 

Course Components

  • Understand sociocultural factors that influence participation in physical activity in order to challenge stereotypes and embrace difference
  • Understand a range of biophysical principles to enhance sporting performance
  • Develop capabilities and explore strategies to promote kotahitanga
  • Develop movement skills and strategies in challenging movement contexts

Course Overview

Term 1
Participating in games of kī o rahi and applying movement strategies both in class and
during interclass tournaments. Applying and reflecting on strategies that promote Kotahitanga.
We will also be collecting evidence towards the influences on movement in Aotearoa external
that is submitted later in the year through looking at te ao māori and biomechanical aspects of
kī o rahi.

Term 2
We will spend the beginning of Term 2 finishing up our kī o rahi unit and completing the
1.1 assessment. The rest of Term 2 will be spent collecting evidence and developing an
understanding of how personal movement experiences influence hauora as well as for the
influences on movement in Aotearoa external. The context for this unit is a 4km run and circuit
training sessions.

Term 3
During Term 3 students will have a second opportunity to improve their grades for 1.1
and 1.2, the movement strategies and kotahitanga assessments. The context for this unit will
either be badminton or korfball. They will also be completing their final assessment work for the
two externally assessed standards using the data they have collected over the past terms.

Term 4
The beginning of Term 4 will be used for any catch-up work that needs to be completed
for the internal assessments
