Course Description

13 Painting

This course is a practical course that teaches skills in painting, developing your ideas and picture making. This course will teach skills for students who want a pathway on to careers and tertiary courses in the Visual Arts.

Course Components

  • Refine and develop the skills, techniques and methods needed to make paintings
  • Become familiar with different painting styles, techniques and established practices
  • Develop a systematic approach to developing ideas and picture making
  • Develop your own portfolio of work

Course Overview

Term 1
Week 1: Intro to course/ Art Gallery visit (Art Scavenger hunt)

Week 2: Drawing skills (Includes x3 drawings for .2 DRAWING internal)/ Painting skills workshop

Week 3: Genre workshops, Gallery visit.

Week 4: Intro to .4 ARTBOARD, .2 DRAWING, .3 DEVELOPING IDEAS/ Brainstorm ideas incl. x3 artists.

Collate visual images & write proposal of artboard ideas/ Kōrero Toi proposal idea.

Week 5: 2.2 + 3.2 Artist 1 Do x3 studies of Artist 1

Week 6: Artist 2 Do x3 studies of Artist 2

Week 7: Artist 3 Do x3 studies of Artist 3

Week 8: 2.2 and 3.2

Week 9: 2.2 and 3.2 (.2 DRAWING- FORMATIVE FEEDBACK)

Week 10: 2.2 and 3.2 hand in (x12 drawing studies for .2 DRAWING) Begin 2.3 and 3.3

Term 2
Week 1: Korero Toi - Artboard Panel 1 ideas for development (finish first half of art board formative), continuing 2.3 and 3.3

Week 2-5: Working on the 2.3 and 3.3 internal.

Week 6: Handing in the 2.3 and 3.3

Week 7-8: Finishing off panel 1.

Week 9: Strict Deadline for PANEL 1 of ARTBOARD – formative feedback, Korero Toi – Conventions, how to develop Artboards activity, beginning panel 2

Week 10: Working on Panel 2.

Term 3
Week 1: Continue making art for Artboard Panel 2

Week 2: Continue making art for Artboard Panel 2

Week 3: Continue making art for Artboard.

Week 4: Picture making compositions activity / Korero Toi – Ideas for compositions.

Week 5-6: continue making art for Artboard.

Week 7: L3 Strict Deadline for PANEL 1 of ARTBOARD – formative feedback, continue making art for artboard.

Week 8-9: Continue making art for Artboard.

Week 10: (PANEL 2 DUE L2) Korero Toi – ARTBOARD .4 L2 FORMATIVE FEEDBACK

Art room is OPEN during holidays. Level 3 to work on Panel 3

Term 4
Week 1: Finishing touches to Artboard L2 – Continuing on Artboard and .4 L3 FORMATIVE FEEDBACK

Week 2: Continue making art for Artboard L3, Finishing touches L2 (Wednesday 23rd October Level 2 - .4 STRICT ARTBOARD HAND IN)

Week 3: Finishing touches to Art Board (Level 3 - .4 ARTBOARD HAND IN)

OFFICAL NZQA CUT OFF DATES to be sent away: Level 2: 30th October | Level 3: November 7
