Course Description

12 History

Have you ever thought to yourself, "well, how did we get here?" Or you may find yourself thinking, "Where are we heading?" And you may ask yourself "am I right or am I wrong?" Then Year 12 History is the subject for you!

Learn whether we are caught in an endless cycle, where everything seems the same as it ever was or whether we are learning from our past mistakes and making progress. We will critically examine decisions made in the past that are impacting us today and build your confidence to discuss what future may lie ahead.

This course will have a unique international flavour and build your skills and confidence in being a historian.

  • The 1954 Parker-Hulme murder
  • World War 2: The Māori Battalion at Cassino
  • Vietnam War: My Lai Massacre
  • LBGTQIA+ life in NZ and Around the World
  • Dawn Raids & Civil Rights


Course Overview

Term 1
Term 1 will we look explore an event during the Vietnam War and look at the psychological effects on the soldiers and how that impacted their behaviour on and off the battlefield.

Term 2
Term 2 will we be writing up our 10 credit report from what we learnt about in the first term.

Term 3
Term 3 we will be doing the student led research internal. Students will choose their own topic to study with help from their teacher and learning vital research and source analysis skills.

Term 4
Term 4 we will be finishing off our research and applying our learning from Term 3 around our source investigation skills and putting them into use for the source exam.
