Intermediate Music
This course develops your performance and composition skills, your analysis of musical works and your understanding of theory.

Course Overview
Term 1
The focus of this term is music notation using MuseScore 3. Students will use music technology to re-create a provided score. Through this process they will:
- create, and edit a given score
- learn to identify the treble and bass clefs, note names, key signatures, dynamic, tempo, and accidentals
- learn to input, edit and enter text, notes, dynamics, and accidentals
- be able to describe all of the features and functions used to create the score
Term 2
The focus for this term will be 1.1 Beats re-creation task where Students will focus on their aural, sequencing, and music technology skills. They will also explore musical style and genre.
students will:
- Research and identify musical features relating to style and genre
- Re-create 40 seconds to 1 minute of a song using a DAW such as Sound Trap.
- De- construct their chosen or given song, then re-create the drum, bass and/ or piano or guitar part by playing in each instrument using the software.
- submit a copy of the original song along with their Sound Trap re-creation and a slide including the elements and features of their chosen song.
Term 3
The focus for this term will be finishing and submitting their beats re -creation standard 1.1 b and starting on 1.4 Shape music ideas to create an original composition. This task invites the students to explore culture and heritage in relation to music as expression of self.
Students will:
- Explore and apply musical features in a creative way.
- Further develop their instrument skills through the process of composition.
- Further develop their technology skills related to recording and sequencing.
- Create an original composition.
- Explore culturally grounded features and practices.
Term 4
The focus for this term will be 1.2 demonstrate music performance skills. Students will be given ample opportunity to practice their chosen performance piece that they have selected with their instrument teacher. This time during the year will also be used to consolidate learning in aural and theory skills that students will have been developing in class throughout the year.
Students will:
- Refine and develop performance skills.
- Explore stage presence and showmanship.
- Come together to create a performance for an audience.
- Consolidate the years learning in aural and theory
