13 Health Education

In this course you look at current health issues in both New Zealand and internationally.

Course Components

  • Analyse and research an ethical issue
  • Analyse an international health issue
  • Examine health practices in New Zealand
  • Learn about a current health issue affecting a group within New Zealand

Course Overview

Term 1
Will cover different models of wellbeing, determinants of health and investigate diverse health practices from Western Scientific Medicine as well as Complementary and Alternative Medicines. There will also be a focus on research and literacy skills in a Health context.

Term 2
Term 2 introduces different ethical perspectives and how they inform health decisions. There will be a focus on a specific health issue and the ethical stances surrounding it.

Term 3
Term 3 investigates a topical New Zealand health issue, its implications for the well-being of people and society and strategies to bring about more equitable outcomes in relation to the health issue.

Term 4
Term 4 focuses on preparing for the external exam, which requires an analysis of an international health issue.

Entry Requirements

At least 10 credits in 12HED or 10 credits in a Level 2 writing rich subject
