12 Art Passion Project
SEMESTER 1: “Coming up with Creative Ideas"

Art Passion Project is a course designed for students wanting to pursue their passion for art in a more real-life exhibition context. This course is aimed at creative students who want to pursue art beyond the traditional art board without being restricted by size, style or medium. SEMESTER 1 is about coming up with creative ideas and making concepts of your ideas to exhibit in an art gallery at the end of the year.

Course Components

  • Come up with creative ideas for your project and get feedback along the way 
  • Create concept drawings to visually develop ideas
  • Make prototype artworks as practice towards exhibiting in a gallery


NOTE: This is a two semester course. This course works well when paired with APP Semester 2, but can be taken independently as well.

Course Overview

Term 1
Week 1: Intro to course, class to decide on group exhibition theme, Pūmanawa + Art Gallery visit
Week 2: Intro to Generic Tech: 91356 internal, begin brainstorming individual ideas
Week 3: Refine to x3 ideas. Research artists that have done similar. Give/receive feedback on ideas
Week 4: Intro to Art: 91310 internal, begin sketching out ideas for Concepts
Week 5- 10: Begin making x9 prototype artworks ( x3 different series of x3 artworks)

Term 2
Week 1: Finish making prototype artworks (x9 artworks completed).
Week 2: Give/receive feedback on prototypes, refine successful areas of your prototype into x1 Refined/ Final design
Week 3-5: Work on making Refined/ Final prototype,
Week 6: Give/receive feedback on finished Refined/ Final design, reflection on Final prototype.. “is it fit for purpose”
Week 7: Finish Generic Tech: 91356 internal handed in. Art: 91310 internal x10 drawings handed in
SEMESTER 1 ENDS → SEMESTER 2 BEGINS
Week 8: Intro to Semester 2 course, write “proposal” of ideas, Pūmanawa Gallery visit – decide spaces
Week 9: Intro to Generic Tech: 91355 and Generic Tech: 91357 internal, research planning tools
Week 10: Begin making Final Artworks

Term 3
Week 1-2: Continue making Final Artworks
Week 3: Internal check in- Reflect on using planning tools. Give/receive feedback on artwork so far
Week 4-6: Continue making Final Artworks
Week 7: Internal check in- Reflect on using planning tools. Give/receive feedback on artwork so far
Week 8- 10: Continue making Final Artworks - FULLY FINISHED by end of term

Term 4
Week 1: Finish internals- Reflect on using planning tools. Give/receive feedback on finished artwork + reflection
Week 2: Preparing to exhibit: Writing exhibition blurbs, pricing, making posters to put around school
Week 3: Frame up artwork + display in gallery. Generic Tech: 91355 and Generic Tech: 91357 internal handed in
SEMESTER 2 ENDS → EXHIBITING IN GALLERY (Students on study break.. volunteer x1 day at gallery)
