Project 1 Maori Gods and Legends
(7 weeks) standard AS92000, 5 credits internal
Generate product or spatial design ideas using visual communication techniques in response to design influences

For the first time in Aotea Roa educational history schools must inform their work with at least one pathway using Matauranga and Te Ao Maori .
We can also use a second pathway of using traditional influential designers.
Students are encouraged to show a passion towards using the inspiration of the Whakapapa found in Gods and Legends together with the symbolism of Maori and Pasifyka to generate divergent ideas which could be used in the Term2 project of spatial architecture.
expect assessement for this projuct #1 AS1.1 due 6 May 2024 (week 2, term#2)

Term 2
Project #2: Social Housing (10weeks) , 5 credits internal
AS92001 Use representation techniques to visually communicate own spatial design outcome

Using our ideas generated in project1 we now focus on the context. To create compact modular social housing with a recognisable Maori/Pasifyka thread.
We use the ideas of the Tapu and Noa to create architectural forms which when integrated into a social hosing site are the beginnings of a solution that is slowly refined towards the refining of its interior in keeping with Maori Pasifyka customs.

Term 3
Project #3 Social Housing Seating/Lighting , 5 credits external.
AS92002 Develop product ideas informed by the consideration of people.

The functional outfitting of the project #2 space sees the student detailing ideas of seating or lighting products that can be incorporated into the Maori/Pasifyka social housing solution. The detailed construction of these products with exploded views, cross sections with the evidence of modelling gives student insight into product design evidence necessary before such are sent for planning and manufacturing.

Term 4
Short weeks of around 4 weeks before external exams. Catchup of work from Projects #1 to 3 as required.
